It’s a bit divisive, ‘The Queen Is Dead‘, ‘Strangeways, Here We Come‘, ‘Meat Is Murder‘… in my humble opinion, this is the finest Smiths album. Morrisseys’ flamboyant, rose waving, morose style is spot on alongside Johnny Marrs‘ spangly guitar (which is legendary in its own right – Modest Mouse confirms that, shame about The Cribs though), yes, that’s true of all their albums but this in particular showcases their more downtrodden (seems like an oxymoron) like I Know It’s Over to their more obscure in Vicar In A Tutu.
