Hold Me Tight // Hoodooleen

Hoodooleen is Robert James Hudulin (pretty smart way to come up with a band name, very cool) coming to you from Australia via Croatia. He creates calming but incredibly dramatic, larger than life show tune-esque indie pop.

That is what makes Hoodooleen different from pretty much everything else I have heard this year, it’s so emotive and clearly enjoyed while being played. It’s almost like it is a deeply personal story being aired and there’s a kind of anguish in the vocals that is pretty admirable.

The track draws upon influences away from usual indie rock or pop influences such as Joy Division or Orange Juice and heads into the realm of 70’s Rock more like Bowie or Queen. There is a showmanship to it that references them though it’s subtle, it’s definitely there.

Listen and let me know your thoughts!
