Where to start. I love the name, very X-Files, love the artwork, very Bryan Lee O'Malley but most importantly the music is spot on. From the jaunty piano intro to the shamelessly sing-a-long chorus what isn't to like?? They are like what Panic at the Disco could have been if they were good. You can... Continue Reading →
Paranoiacs // Chemtrails
So after giving 'Vultures' by Chemtrails a listen I was under the impression that the band were a bouncy Indie Pop outfit, listening to the newer material they seemed to have had a slight shift of focus into a more abrasive niche. Give it a listen and tell me your thoughts. https://open.spotify.com/track/0lVLQ3jLvkLUPCb3dTbyFm?si=AYblS6zeRB27JU4pt1mmCw
Band of the Week // Khruangbin
Khruangbin are incredibly talented, incredibly, effortlessly cool and so laid back it's amazing they make it to gigs. If you need an escape, crank this up and drift off into paradise. Their previous album, Con Todo El Mundo has pretty much been on my playlist since the day it came out and this new album... Continue Reading →
Tin Foil Hat // Johnny Raincloud
Think 70s, think Marc Bolan, think Arcade Fire circa 'Funeral' and throw in some odd one liners and you'll have 'Johnny Raincloud'. I think that's pretty spot on. https://open.spotify.com/track/6y1yoSPlLh8aFdx2WhoWXF?si=O4AKdGfTTBuYZYEJZuxnTw
Feel the Way I Want & Money // Caroline Rose
I originally planned to link 'Money' but then it struck me that its quite an old track (comparatively) so on my hunt for newer material, discovered that Caroline Rose has a new album. How fortunate. Money has an Itchy, claustrophobic, surf-rock guitar riff with bursting into a tight fast chorus with keys that have a... Continue Reading →
Ode to the King of Nothing // Clans
I get the feeling that I’ve heard a bunch of songs in one 3min period. Theres a familiarity with the vocals too, think Jack White or Anthony Kiedis. Think Indie Guitar Pop similar to MGMT. Also, any song including the Mario coin noise is a massive thumbs up. https://open.spotify.com/track/0AoJYnxqd7vPYJN3qMxRMh?si=QD-pSlhRTru9wwCFVJ1uMw
The Red Planet I Planned You For // SideKickNick
Seemingly ultra obscure SideKickNick from NZ has quite a way with lo-fi, slightly off kilter noise. It takes a second to get your head around it but it's a definite grower. Also, I have no idea what is going on with the artwork but I hope thats a bellybutton. https://open.spotify.com/track/1mIi10mtrsp0FVjVRy5ZSM?si=uBoPz4m1QkuHGGRqKs2A1g
